Having been selected to provide all the loose furniture for the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University Belfast. ULSTER CARPETS - STAFF HUB

September 2026

We completed the fit-out of a new staff hub at Ulster Carpets in Portadown, creating a welcoming and considered environment for employees to connect, relax and collaborate. As a leading carpet manufacturer supplying residential and hospitality projects around the world, Ulster Carpets has a strong connection to materials, craftsmanship and design. These principles informed the interiors throughout the new staff hub.

The ground floor was designed as a relaxed social space where employees from across the business can come together, take a break and enjoy lunch. A series of bespoke booths provide comfortable, informal seating, upholstered in Mainline Flax fabric and vita vinyl. The booths feature a fluted detail, complemented by integrated planting to bring softness and greenery into the space.

The boardroom combines rich natural materials with contemporary detailing. The boardroom table features an American black walnut veneer top paired with a black cast-aluminium frame. The table incorporates bespoke inlay panels created in collaboration with Solid Wool, a specialist company that combines wool with bio-resin to produce a durable composite material. The inlays introduce a tactile, material led element to the table while creating a direct connection to Ulster Carpets' heritage.

The boardroom is completed with slatted walnut wall panelling, incorporating a discreet hidden storage compartment. The concealed storage maintains the clean lines of the room while providing practical functionality behind the feature wall.

The finished space brings together craftsmanship, natural materials, subtle detailing and practical design to create a staff environment that feels welcoming and relevant to Ulster Carpets ethos.

ULSTER UNIVERSITY TIMBER QUAY

September 2025

In 2025, in response to growing demand for additional space, Ulster University has transformed its Timber Quay site at the Magee campus in Derry, creating new teaching and learning environments ahead of the 2025/26 academic year. The completed fit-out provided the university with the capacity to welcome up to 375 additional students.

Furniture was carefully selected to create a range of spaces suited to the varied needs of university life. Identity Furniture supplied Rubi lounge chairs and Syre sofas, introducing comfortable, relaxed seating areas for informal study, socialising and downtime. Prime high stools and Hex tables provide more structured spaces for students to gather, work and collaborate, offering flexibility across the newly developed environment.

The result is a practical and welcoming extension to the Magee campus, combining dedicated teaching environments with comfortable spaces for students to meet, work and relax. The project demonstrates how considered furniture selection can help create adaptable environments that support the changing needs of modern higher education.
